What do you think of him as a player? I know a bunch of non-musicians who have an image of him as an amazing guitar phenom. Is he really all that or is he overrated?
Finally a guitarist who's really overrated. Never understood what's so
great about this guy. He's just a total bore, a very insignificant player
technically and musically, sounds meh.

I think he has a great sense of melody and note choice. Is that enough to make someone a great player?

Not only that, but Carlos flat out rawks But maybe it's a generational thing, maybe only us old farts appreciate him. I grew up copying licks from the first 3 Santana ...
He is a good player. I like some of his stuff. I think he is rated about
where he should be, considering I have had many non guitar players tell be
that Bruce Springsteen is an incredible guitar player.
I think these "is _____ overrated" threads are overrated.
If you like or dislike a musician, what should you care what other people think? If you dig it, you dig it. If not, move on. But no, let's wallow in shitting all over someone for a totally nebulous reason as "they're overrated".
Or are you going to use this for some kind of stupid argument? "9 out of 10 guitarists think Santana is...

I can see how somebody who isn't familiar with his early work and only knows him as an old guy who wanks over pop records could think he's overrated, but back in the late 60s and 70s he was a monster player. Santana in his prime
