Thread: Sandra's Money-Saving Meals

Started 5 months, 3 weeks ago by Lex
That horrendous ripping sound you heard last Sunday at noon was a massive tear in the space time continuum. On her new show Sandra showed us how to make hot dogs. Hot dogs. She offered helpful hints like "Put each one into a bun." Just when you thought the Food Network couldn't sink any lower.

I'm glad she said something, Lex. Up until Sunday, I'd always throw my hot dogs on the floor - I simply didn't know where to put them. Thanks, Sandra. Man, I love you guys! (...

QUOTE(flyfish @ Jul 17 2009, 12:15 PM) Man, I love you guys! (How did I miss that? Oh yeah, Canada Day.) Canada is next on her list of countries to food rape. Stand by.

Yesterday's episode was heart-warmingly bad. Her money saving meals have been inane, certainly, but this was a cut above below. She loves, loves putting things on skewers and yesterday she gloried in making chicken-pineapple-red pepper kebabs. Sandra Lee on boneless chicken thighs: "Wait til you see what I am using as the chicken that is so smart!" She also made pulled pork in "the...

I, too, loved the part about how much that rub would have cost if you put all those spices together yourself. I did especially enjoy her demonstration of where the pork shoulder comes from. Sort of Vanna White-like.

That description of the show was very enjoyable. I don't think I could take watching the real thing.

^^^^ Deb always gives good description.

QUOTE(Rex1965 @ Jul 20 2009, 04:24 PM) ^^^^ Deb always gives good description. We watched it together. It was actually even worse than the description. Rex, if you keep missing episodes we're going to take back your russipe box.

QUOTE(Deb Van D @ Oct 26 2009, 02:41 PM) Making the hoisin sauce was just so stupid. She saved a *whole lot* of money by not buying the prepared sauce and ended up with about 2 quarts of hoisin mock-up. How much of it would you ever use in one russipe? A teaspoon? A little goes a long way. But you sure saved all that money making faux-sin sauce that will last you for about 10 years. I think she could even piss of someone as...

QUOTE(Rex1965 @ Oct 26 2009, 02:08 PM) Even a neophyte like me doesn't need instruction on frying fish! I'm waiting for her to make the hoisin sauce - I missed it yesterday. She just butchered that fish - it was overcooked beyond belief. But Sandra can actually learn. She no longer calls it "hose-in" sauce. We try to enjoy this show in the same way we used to snark away on Semi-Ho. The...

I had my DVR set to record this, but for some reason it only caught the last 7 minutes. All I got to see were the meatball sandwiches ("The egg is a binder") and the big reveal at the end of the total cost per person for that "huge" meal. Apparently it's true that my DVR is smarter than me.

QUOTE(Deb Van D @ Jul 20 2009, 02:47 PM) I wont bother you with the Hula Girl cocktail. No I wont. But...but...but... I understand that it's a refreshing cocktail to pair with summer salads! And it's healthy - it has fruit in it!

QUOTE(helena @ Aug 10 2009, 02:09 PM) Mellisa is too frenetic to my taste but she can cook. You're correct Helena, that appears to be her problem. More often than not, people with little television experience exhibit that in their early stages. I expect her to improve and lose most of that "freneticism" over time. People such as Jacques Pepin and Sara Moulton got over it - but Martin Yan never did (LOL).

I am sad to report that this Ham & Pineapple fest constituted 50% of my TV viewing this week. I am, however, happy to have learned that I can feed 800 people for $2.50.

And don't accept any invites to Sandy's set for cocktails. In any form. her "nephew" bryce is really a robot assassin and she will have him dispatch melissa any day now
