Thread: Sale of Lola T 492 to Alan or Harry Humberstone?

Started 9 months ago by 911thillclimber
This is repeated on my long running Lola T492 thread here, but I hope this thread will catch some 'extra' attention. I am trying to find who sold a Lola T492 Sports 2000 race car in about 1987/88 to Harry Humberstone or his son Alan. The car was used to provide a clean tub to re-build the Humberstone's Karmann Ghia Super Saloon that originally sat on Tony Dickinson's Lola, T 490 HU 6...

So! A mystery that 10/10th can't solve? This must be a first!

Graham these things can take a while you know!!

911thillclimber replied 9 months ago
Yes, I know, just being a little cheeky! I also know the real enthusiasts are on here too as proven by my other Lola thread. My fingers are crossed.

Sending this question back to the top/first page for one more lap, then I'll consider the chase for the real chassis number done-for!

Popping this request back to the top incase it jolts someone's memory. The sale of the 'unkown' chassis to repair the damaged car is all I'm after so I can try to trace the chassis number. The tub is drilled for a plate but does not have one. I believe it was a complete S2000 T 492 when it was stripped and parts transfered/modified. Anyone have any clues please? Graham.

keep plugging away with the request. It took some time but I had amazing results on a question that I though was impossible on my car Silly question but have you contacted the sports 2000 club, mike turner or chris snowden

Chap called Brian Davies, who I think was 'southern-based' was selling a T492 in early 1980. Long-shot, I know...

Thank you both for the responses. I will follow them up. The S2000 people by and large will not 'talk' to me because I have ''butchered'' a T 492 to a 911 engined hillclimb Sports Libre. The car was very modified in the tub areas when I bought it, and nothing in the suspension save the roll bars was Lola. I have had fantastic support on my car in 10/10's (see other massive thread) ...

It came with the engine shown in the pics, we didn't change that. Not sure who put that in, think Alan and Harry may have done it. And yes well observed regarding those open trumpets, that was when John first got it and looks like the start of the strip down, from what I remember we never removed the engine, just wrapped it up, our job was to panel, roll cage, pipe, wire and fit the body. John's place at the time was a bit of a...

911, the Wainwright/Sparkrite car was in '78, not the eighties. The Moseley car was also a 492, the Connell may have been Jim not Ian. Humberstone had a T590 I think, not a 490 series, he raced alongside Nick Cole, both Kentmen, Mike Blanchet had a few goes in the Cole car too. By the mid 80s, 490/492s were rare, most had gone from regular S2000 races by about 1983. I have a good no of progs from S2000 races, 77 to about 83 if any names...

Maybe a little piece of help/confusion!! I think you may have misheard A/H regarding the baskill name . I think the persons name is Tony Baskeville, however I wouldn't have the first idea of how to contact him but he certainly was a "Kent" man who helped a number of Club racers with preparation. Not sure he raced though. Good luck ,hope its not a red herring.

Went to look for my camera then realized my wife has it for the next ten days. She is on a cruise ship with a girl friend. The price we pay to have our toys! If you are still interested in some pics, I can take them on her return. To be fair, I still do not know complete history of my car but the details are slowly filling in. I can only assume my car has never been badly damaged and the tub is original. or at least close to original. bob k.
