I think 2nd unit photography happens about 2-3 weeks before regular filming happens and they could definitely do that in say October. For sets, the stuff they could do that they really wouldn't ever have to use again when Hugh and co are ready is May's old house where she, her husband, and the kids lived prior to the whole fiasco. Maybe they will start filming some of the scenes that Hugh and Rob aren't apart of?

I am no film expert - but wouldn't it be more expensive to set up production just so scenes for one major actor can already be shot? The same set is likely going to be used for some scenes with Hugh, and wouldn't it be more expensive to keep the sets maintained as well as keeping the technical crew around, while waiting for the rest of the actors? I doubt that Hugh will be available until mid-December at the earliest -- he does need...
