Chicago Sun-Times (August 13) Michael Patrick O'Brien, now starring in the Second City show "America: All Better!" in Chicago, has been hired for the "Saturday Night Live" writing staff. He'll appear at Second City for about two more weeks until moving to New York. Before joining the Second City cast, O'Brien performed with its touring companies and the long-running iO team the Reckoning. He...

Oh that is great news! I actually saw America, All Better when I was in Chicago back in January and it was by far the funniest show I have ever seen, and Michael Patrick O'Brien made me laugh the most! So congrats to him! That is fantastic news!

SNL has hired two new female cast members... Jenny Slate (played Jimmy Fallon's assistant on 7th Floor West) Nasim Pedrad (Iranian improv comedian from the Groundlings) http://thecomicscomic.typepad.com/thecomicscomic/ New writers hired (but some of them could wind up as performers; it happens quite often)... Hannibal Buress Christina Nangle Michael Patrick O'Brien Ryan Perez Also, ...

Now Casey can concentrate on writing the sequel to her hugely successful film Bride Wars. Hehe.

I didn't have a problem with Casey Wilson. I just think she never found her rhythm and stride on the show. But Kristen Wiig annoys me. She seems to play the same character in each sketch. The praise she gets confounds me. I still think Maya, Ana, and Molly were loads better. But I wasn't a Will Ferrell fan either.

Casey Wilson was never given the signature characters or the kind of material that Poehler, Wiig, or the new girls were given. She mostly had to play the straight character to other zany characters -- the girlfriend, wife, mother, teacher, etc. She never found her right rhythm on the show, but she wasn't terrible beyond repair, and she had her moments here and there. So I won't rag on her and ...

I am happy Casey Wilson is gone. I cannot think of any worse performer on the show in all my years of watching it. Every time she was given a chance to shine by being the main or sole character in a sketch she left me feeling the bit should have gone to someone else. Now she can focus on screenwriting.

Sometimes they let go of great castmembers after one season who find their stride elsewhere (Rob Riggle & David Koechner) As for Casey Wilson? Not so much

U2 will be the musical guest for the season premiere of SNL. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32...nt-access_hollywo od/

WHAT UP WITH THAT - Kenan Thompson's performance on this: it still rules - Al Gore's reactions: - Kudos to Mindy Kaling for showing up This may be one of the season's rare highlights, and it's a good one, especially for Kenan

That was the most acrobatic monologue I've ever seen before. Way to go, Joseph! "Palin 2012". LoL.

Blake Lively is going to be even worse than January Jones.

JGL is doing his best. Seth Myers and the writing staff aren't doing theirs. His monologue was great, but I still just don't like Bobby Moynahan. 2012, eh. Game show skit, no. Reba skit, once I saw where they were going, much better. But I am one of the few who likes Keenan. Jack Johnson wasn't bad I guess?

Damn. Looks like Joseph Gordon-Levitt was trying to compensate for January Jones' lack of energy last week. But methinks he was compensating a little too much. While I definitely appreciate the his constant energy, he came off as a little too hammy at times. Like he was trying to force the comedy. Gotta say though... that "What Up With That" sketch NEVER gets old!!! Kenan finally struck gold with this one! Poor Nasim Pedrad got...

I've already made my feelings about Blake Lively very clear. Regarding Lautner, I'm just glad it ain't Kristen Stewart or Pattinson. At least Lautner shows some hint of a personality in interviews. He might be a surprisingly good host. As for Franco, he was alright last time he hosted. I expect about the same level this time.

And Jesus take the wheel to that next host/musical guest. Mediocre tabloid darlings.

About Blake Lively, I will never forget that clip from The Soup that showed Blake and America Ferrera being interviewed for Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants II . Blake was rambling on about Gossip Girl and America rolled her eyes as if to say, "WTF." I'm not a fan of America Ferrera at all, but that was a hilarious moment. This message has been edited. I got to say, Blake Lively was pretty funny on Jimmy Fallon last night with this sketch she did. I think she could pull this out...well...maybe
