Thread: Rulers vs. Leaders

Started 1 month, 1 week ago by Mud Doctor
During the last election I kept hearing (but I didn't really take notice of it because it always seemed like it was in the periphery) this and that about how great we were because we elected our 'rulers'. It was one of those things that feel like a splinter in your sock. It just kind of irritates you every time you take a step. And the idea that we elect a 'ruler' just irritates the crap out...

I get the same felling when people say they can make no difference because they are just the little guy.

A ruler rules by authority and often by birth. I always think of royalty as an example. A leader leads by election of ballots and often by popularity whether because of the individual or the political party. Either one can be effective and good for a country. Or they can be terrible, depending on their actions. In Canada we have both a ruler and a leader simultaneously who are ...

No one rules an American, that is why our founding fathers gave us the 2nd Amendment.

A ruler does not need the consent of the governed and in many cases will not deign to seek it-cf. Frederick II's comment-"My people and I have an agreement-they are free to say what they please, and I am free to do as I please." Also the concept of a ruler implies a know it all-the ruler always knows best. I forget where I read it, but the difference between an autocrat and a tyrant is that an ...

Obama is not an evil man. He has good dreams, and great ideals for the "people"... But he is, as you say a "Ruler". And a Benevolent Tyrant is still a Tyrant.

These are all facts. Not quite. The President of the United States does not have a dual role as head of state and head of government since there is no constitutional basis for a head of government. In other words we don't have one due to the separation of powers of the various branches of government. It is a checks and balances thing. I've often noticed is that you treat the ...

I appreciate your honesty and will keep that in mind for the future. I was on an entirely different wave length. In other words, I was thinking like a Canadian. Aware of your history, but not how it feels to you. Anyway, enough said. Take care and I'll see you around.

CR, Perhaps you should know that Americans fought a revolutionary war to free ourselves of rule by a monarch, we thus are very sensative to any suggestion of such rule. As a matter of fact it really makes us angry.

Very wealthy people all of them. Aren't they? And your point is? Most of them were lawyers, so yeah, they had money, Kennedy came from a rich family, bootleggers they were. Bush's have money, oil money. The current pretender to the presidency, doesn't have money or class, that's why he's spending ours like a drunken sailor. So you don't really know if he is one of your citizens or not? Not really, and he's...

Once you have had a taste of what we have put up with this past year then he can be your Ruler/Leader. Whatever....Take him, he is yours. No charge. So you don't really know if he is one of your citizens or not? Keep in mind I am one citizen...

Rose, I think you miss the point. The difference between leaders and rulers is like the difference between listening and hearing. Both involve ears and sound... but they're still not the same. You can be elected and still not be a leader. I'd hold up Chavez and... well Hitler as prime examples. Being elected at the ballot box has nothing to do with the difference between a leader and a ruler. George Washington was a leader. Barack...

The President is both Chief of State and Head of Government. In Canada the Prime Minister is Head of Government, the Soveregn-Queen Elizabeth II at present-is the Chief of State, and is represented in Canada by the Governor General. In the Third Republic in France the President of the Republic was Chief of State and limited to "meeting and greeing" as they used to say, the Premier was Head of Government. The 5th...

Milt, thanks for reminding about that 48 hour grace period thing. I'd forgotten all about that. And not that Bubba's recension matter all that much, because I think most of them were close to retirement age by that point.
