  I use Win XP Professional (SP3) with IE8 - so the following comments might not apply to Windows 7. However, my network configuration is very similar to yours - and over the years, I have used IE6, IE7 and IE8. Consequently, I doubt whether your problem is related to the operating system - or the version of Internet Explorer. The IP (gateway) address of my first router was 192.168.1.1. With that router, I needed to use 192.168.1.254...
