Thread: Rookie Camp

Started 3 months, 1 week ago by Dewey
I watched most of the 10:30 rookie practice and here are my observations: 1) Varlamov looked really good. I think I saw only 1 goal scored against him and most of the drills were not very goalie friendly. 2) I liked Finley on forward. He seemed to be working really hard and did not seem as gassed as the others toward the end. (Injured but not gassed). He made a nice spinarama move in...

Agreed on all your points except gustafsson. I don't think he impressed whatsoever but you can definitely see the skill is there. He has all the tools but he has to figure out how to put it all together. Varlamov is a pure beast IMO. Don't know why people doubt him. Finley as you said was pretty effective including a laser slap shot coming down the wing that beat holtby clean high glove. ...

Carlson was good again, but that sounds like a broken record. I like Dubuc again as well as Hauswirth. I think AnGus was sort of taking it easy, but he has lots of skill. At 1300, the big guys came out. Old Stretch held his own - Mike Green impressed with his puck handling. Must say that Clark did look pretty good as well.

I was really impressed with Miskovic, he had very good positioning, and the few times I keyed on him, was very good at getting the opposing player off the puck.

I was there watching the Rookie camp as well. I watched the rookies from about 10:30 to about 11:30. Interesting to see the guys. I noticed they were all out before the "official" start time of 10:30 (unless the time had been moved up and I didn't know it.) Of course, rookies are expected to be "eager beavers" who show up for everything early since they haven't made the club. Maybe ...

Are we saying that Schultz looked bad against mostly rookies? If so, dump him.

The one thing that was apparent at rookie camp was that the Caps are a whole lot deeper at defense than at forward. During the drills, the defense had their way with the forwards for the most part. Gustafsson didn't look so good out there, constantly getting out muscled by the D. He did flash a few good moves out there but they didn't result in any goals. At least he looks healthy and ...

i'm just grumpy cause the dog peed on my iranian hand-made rug. and i called him einstein to impugn his "wise guy" reference...even though it was not directed at me...if you are going to suggest someone is talking out of their bung-hole...then you had at least better make sure you have your facts straight (which he did not).

QUOTE (CapsFan2020 @ Sep 10 2009, 07:45 PM) I was just watching Capitals report and Stretch talked about Knuble. He says that Knuble is his favorite Capital right now even though he hasn't played a single game. He describes Knuble as a monster, a mobile gorilla, just humongous. He says that he is so powerful that he comes down and shoots and you don't even see the puck and that he would just try to determine which...

Hey now... This thread seems to have deteriorated. How about some Rookie Camp Observations in here? Has anyone attended the camp since Monday? Any new standouts or washouts? Interesting veteran sightings? Is anyone planning on attending the Rookie game on Friday? Updates from that would be appreciated.

I don't think anyone doubts his skill. it is his durability that is the concern. Can't argue with that until he plays a full season. I think he will be ok given his competitive nature and drive.
