Thread: Rochester Carb Application or Part Number

Started 3 months, 1 week ago by jaygoss
Have been using a rebuilt Solex but it's off now as I sort out some vapor lock issues. I have a BP Rochester BV carb with an assortment of jets to dial it in. I like the Solex as it's original but if the Rochester offers a noticeable improvement with stock exhaust, bore and an 8:1 compression head I'd change it out. Was wondering if there's any updates? How did it work for you shortbutslow?

I just finished a Rochester B install on my 109 today, finally replacing a Zenith and a two different Webers. The old carbs would never idle OK, being different from one stop to another. The Rochester I have was on a 2.25 bought via Ike several years ago, and had a severe stumble just as the throttle was opened when I previously tried it on my 88. I rebuilt the carb yesterday using a rebuild kit ...

The Rochester carb I used has a 7013029 part number on an attached small metal tag. It is a 'B' carb, with a manual choke. The rebuild kit was Napa part number 2 5158. This rebuild kit apparently is for the B series of carbs, including the BV, due to the extra gaskets included in the kit. The choke cable clamp hole was too small for the multi-strand choke cable to pass thru. I drilled out...

The bakelite spacer was cracked and a little rust on the cast base..... going to rebuild the carb ...

I will be driving the 109 on a 1000 mile round trip to NC and back within the next few weeks. I will see what its highway milage is during the trip. It has been running great with no carb issues since the carb rebuild, but I did have the replace the head gasket due to oil in the coolant and overheating. I've been driving it every day. Bob
