I picked up a used '08 800 Gade a month or so ago. After a few hundred miles I'm convinced the front stock shocks in particular belong in the trash. Riding rocky, technical trails the fronts are so harsh that the machine beats the tar out of me, plus the ground clearance is so low it's constantly bouncing off even modest size rocks, stuff I easily clear with other machines. I measured the ...
Yea the stock shocks gotta go on all Can-am atv's. I know this is a lot differant then sleds. But the suspension on Ski-doo sleds are very very good. I dont care for the suspension on my Outlander but I wouldnt trade the stock suspension on my Ski-doo Rev for anything else. So why can't they do a little better on the atv's?
I stopped at the local Can-Am dealer on the way home from a ride Saturday, they had a '10 800 Max XT-P. Sharp looking machine btw. They let me take it for a test ride to try out the power steering, my first time on an Outie. The steering was nice, but the machine really seemed to roll on turns, felt like the outside front tire really wanted to roll under the machine. I have no idea if ...

I received my Crutchfield shocks last night, Extreme stage IIs for the front, and Extreme stage Is rear. Mounting was a simple 1/2 hour job. I'll post some pics, but in comparison to the stockers, these things are big, body is larger, rod is larger and the springs are longer, and bigger in diameter. I just went for a short ride last night. Tonight I went up on the mountain behind our ...
Pics are coming, I want to clean up the machine Saturday and post them. Rockman, what are your feelings about your machine with the stock suspension? You've got more experience with it than I do. Next time we're out you're welcome to try mine, I'd like another opinion. To me, it now seems like those desert race trucks you see just covering rough ground at insane speeds. Lots of tire ...
QUOTE (brianidaho @ Sep 25 2009, 12:31 AM) Lars, it woke me up to the potential of the machine. Power mods are always good, but on my next machine I'll be focusing on the suspension first. Now that I can keep mine on the trial I'm debating on where to look for more power. ................... Yeah..the suspension thng really is an eye-opener. On my current ride ( Yamaha ...

Thanks for puttin up the pics. The shocks are adequate for the first mile of aggressive riding. Then they go to heck. Heat up fast and really become a handful especially at the track. The X rides much much better, soaks up the landings and are quite predicable and forgiving. I'll take you up on your offer I would love to check em out. Nothing ads to improved off road handling better than upgraded shocks. (IMG:...
