Thread: Rena Smart Heater Question.

I have a 300w Rena heater using as an intake tube to my XP3, on a 90g with additional sump filtration. I'm not sure where it came from but saw some signs of Ick in the tank, and decided to treat it by slowly increasing the temp to 86, and adding Salt. So for 3 days now I've been increasing the temp, heater is currently set to 84 but temp still reads 76.5. Is the "smart" part ...

There's a problem. The Smart part of the heater is that it will blink if the temp drops or rises beyond a percentage of your settings. So if you set it to 84 and the light does't come on you have a heater malfunction.

Thats what I figured. Got a new one. Old one would maintain 76.5 when set on 77, thought if the thermostat went it would hold a constant temp, but it did.

Thanks, Its gone from the 2 fish that I originally saw it on, they look to be doing fine. Its not reappeared on any of the other fish... just have to keep the heat up for a few more days then it should be safe to turn it back down again.

Thanks, Its gone from the 2 fish that I originally saw it on, they look to be doing fine. Its not reappeared on any of the other fish... just have to keep the heat up for a few more days then it should be safe to turn it back down again.

There's a problem. The Smart part of the heater is that it will blink if the temp drops or rises beyond a percentage of your settings. So if you set it to 84 and the light does't come on you have a heater malfunction.
