Thread: Remington 870 Competition

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by LC Man
I just picked up an 870 Comp. I plan on shooting it quite a bit, and I understand there are parts like o-rings, etc, that wear out on this model. Where can I find parts?

A guy on eBay sells the Viton 'O' rings for less than $4 for 6, delivered . I assume just about anything else like the piston is going to be a duplicate of an 1100 part, which Remington carries, or a one off which I don't know who would have now. I saw one of those taken apart, but it was many moons ago now, and I can't remember all the the details. The 'O' ring doesn't 'wear' per se, ...

Last I looked 870's don't have o'rings like 1100's do...

870 Comps have a gas recoil reducer in them.

Made from like 1981 to I think 1986. It's a single shot trap model 870 with a gas powered recoil reduction system. It's like it has a semi 1100 gas system, but that doesn't operate the action, it just moves some parts around to lengthen the recoil pulse. You don't see them too often, because most people who have them are not letting go.

While interesting such a gun is sort of a odd ball. There must be some unique parts that would make this gun difficult repair if needed?

I was actually going to post about a single shot 870. My good freinds fiance shoots trap and told me she had a single shot 870. I didn't believe her and told my buddy that his woman was smoking crack i guess I owe him an apology.

Now there's another gun I have to have to round out my collection. Stop posting about these unique guns, you're costing me money! Honestly, I had not heard of the 870 Competition either. I would love to shoot one.

Numrich lists a few CT parts but I will bet they are getting pretty few.

Perhaps, 01Lariat will tell us when overbored barrels came about and why.

10ga guns aren't popular, 12ga guns are. You put your marketing money where you think it will do the most good. How much stuff can you really do to a gun to make it better? Thus, back bored guns show up on the scene. They make claims and we buy guns. The world goes around. It really doesn't matter to me. I have guns with bores of .729", .740" and .742". I bought all of them because I wanted that gun and it...

A gold trigger is heavier so it will give better feel, Like the weighted dial on your stereo,...........Hmmmm, Digital tuners kinda messed that up but you get me drift right? A company says it's true so it must be!,......Right!? Lets see we spent millions promoting "55 Saves Lives"! Now there are more p!$$ant cars on the road and gas costs three times as much but the speed limit is up to 70&75!!! What the...

The 870 comp has one of the best target barrels ever made. They were backbored [.840s] sometimes you can pick a beat up one for parts. I have one they are target crunching machines.
