About this 1100 Skeet model that I picked up this weekend. It is marked SKEET-T on the right side of the receiver, it has nice wood, although not spectacular, a regular butt plate rather than a recoil pad, a fixed choke (skeet), 25-1/2" barrel (measured from the mouth of the chamber to the muzzle), 12 ga. and the barrel code indicated Apr. 1981 as a DOM. Now, I used to have a Tournament Skeet ...
I'd agree with the using the older style rings. Though before you spend the money clean it top to bottom. Gas ports area could be rough or fowled it don't take much. With the SuperMag I opened the ports both .004 to gain reliable operation with simular loads as you are using. A practice the G3 shouldn't need since it's ports should already be from the factory as large as my modified Smag was ...
If the second shell did not exit the magazine, I would suspect a problem with the feed latch. Otherwise, just give the gun a good cleaning and swap out the piston set for old-style rings, as suggested above. I'm able to run 5/8 oz loads of shot through my G3 pretty reliably, at least when the temperature is above 50F. I have to go to 7/8 oz when it gets colder to get a good burn. It's a 12 ga...
Pro's: Extremely durable, patterns well, very effective Con's: heavy if you plan on walking long distances. Weakness's: Front sling mount stud retaining clip is weak. Fix was to tread stud and used a nut/loc-tite. Worst conditions used: Freezing rain earlier in the day, followed by snow. Temps fell to -10F by the end of day. Gun never failed. Average price used: here you might see ...

Another option if you really like the feel of your Wingmaster is to look for a Model 58 or even a Model 878. Really nice ones are getting harder to find but the 58 was Remington's first gas operated semiauto (pre 1100) and was basically modified Wingmaster. There were even a few 3" mag version made. They are great handling guns and hard to tell from an original Wingmaster ADL.
Since the sights are on the barrel, tight isn't really going to affect much anyway. Sounds like a bad barrel to me. In fact I don't know what else it could be.
HoosierBob wrote: About the piston rings. A lot of us are of the opinion that the old style rings are preferable. I am one of them. The old style two piece pistons are not on the parts lists but are available from Remington, the piston components for the 12g 1100 are Remington parts #15384 and #15385 . My newer 1100 Classic Trap came with the newer style, it now "wears" the old style. I happened to decide to do a complete...
01lariat you are right. But i always try to be civil about things(ethical and professional). Not anymore, you want to know the truth. I am suffering from Stockholm syndrome from Remington. I will pour out my guts. Here it goes. To HELL with the 887 and Remington, besides the 870 and their cheap ammo i won't be buying any more crap from them. My dad since the beginning didn't like it but you see it was a gift(graduation present) for...
The forend cap could be bottoming out before it actually tightens against the forend wood. I have had two do that. The barrel will move slightly as well if that is the problem. The magazine tube was not in far enough! I would suspect the forend support most though.
http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=3811 ... CTION_RING I wouldn't shoot it without all the pieces. Might not hurt to update some of the old parts like this anyway. Recoil spring and Bronze ring assembly. Like remroc said, they usually function modern loads on the "heavy" setting. Set it there and try it. Better than beating that old horse to death with it set light.
