Thread: Release Date For RESTORED CHAPLIN KEYSTONES?

I'd be the first one to dance in the street if this was going to happen, but sadly it isn't. BFI has informed that the set is not going to be released until at least autmn of 2010, maybe even later. It takes time, restoring all these old, largely abused films, but hopefully it's worth the wait!

Well, it's great that they are putting so much effort into the restoration, but as someone who has been waiting for this set since he bought a DVD player, waiting until Autumn 2010 makes me want to cry! The LEAST they could do is release some sort of teaser trailer, behind the scenes of the restoration or perhaps even one complete short film.

No, this refers to newly produced restorations of the earliest films Chaplin made, all produced for the Keystone Company during 1914. These films (except for one title that's missing, Her Friend the Bandit ) have circulated for years in battered and re-edited prints of generally poor quality, but they've been restored using the best material available.
