Preferably something not-too-recent, but it's not like this forum gets much activity anymore so I'm not going to complain if anyone talks about any series made since 2006.
People dismiss Magical Project S (the North American name for the Magical Girl Pretty Sammy TV series, renamed to avoid confusion with the short OVA series) as a mere curiousity for hardcore Tenchi Muyo fanatics, ...
That is sitting on my shelf with all my other unwatched anime; Kino's Journey, Kamichu!, Now and Then Here and There, Simoun... don't preach, I've heard it all before.
Normally, I'd take this time to recommend the criminally-underwatched (though I bet it wouldn't be had KyoAni animated it) Manabi Straight! , but I'll play your game. Before 2006, huh? Okay, I got one.
After Akira , ...
I've seen it, but it was around 15 years ago at the old Université de Montréal anime club.
I said you can also recommend recent anime, I just didn't want the entire focus of the thread to be anime from the past three years.

I'll rec Manabi later if no one else does.
Better recommend it soon or someone else will beat you to the punch.
You know how hopping with vitality this forum's been lately, especially since Beyonce disappeared.
If you're of the MASH-loving, I hate militariezed America ilk, try this one out. It's about two young Japanese children whose mother is horribly burned in an air-raid and dies. They, due to the incompetence of the older brother, become street urchins. And I'm not talking "Oliver" here!
Priceless is an interview with two historians: the bald American guy talks over the Japanese woman and ...
Well, I suppose people's definition of "overlooked" and "underseen" will vary, but I don't consider any film that's included on Roger Ebert's "Great Movies List" to be particularly "overlooked".

Now and Then, Here and There
A very dark, atmospheric wartime Anime about a teenager getting warped forward in time to a land that is barren with little to no water. There he's forced to serve in a division of the military that has children raid villages in search of recruits an water.
All in all it's a very depressing anime that rarely lets up. If that's your type of thing, i highly ...

Rant good or bad? I liked Elfen Lied , but the manga is far better.
Does anyone here have any opinions of A Little Snow Fairy Sugar ? Anime News Network's Carlo Santos wrote a positive review of Sentai Filmworks' re-release . I remember seeing a couple of later volumes of the old Geneon release in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart but didn't pick them up because they weren't the first volume. Seems like something I might like.

And rant how some idiots think its really deep, lol. Plus maybe do some sort of "Spoony" or "TGWTG"-type review of every single episode, pointing out why it's plot elements are so stupid, but in the end, what makes the series watchable anyway.

I liked Kino's Journey quite a bit; I believe I watched it based on Vienna's list -- or one of her lists. I've never been let down by any of her recommendations. And, I know most have seen it, but because it hasn't been mentioned in a while, how about that 3X3 Eyes?
