When I was running on 4 cylinders, the EEC must have been going nuts trying to keep the motor running - but it managed it somehow. Then I got it running on 8 but had rotten belt squeal and a hesitation on full throttle running.
The belt squeal I got around (so far, keep your fingers crossed) with an extra idler puller to increase belt wrap.

Nobody needs that new-fangled HEI, you should go back to a points distributor! For that matter, go back to driver-adjusted spark advance in the cockpit!
We have a steam powered vehicle now... every time my wife see's the torn up Miata on her side of the garage she gets "steamed" and flys off on her trusty broom!
My wifes a flight attendant and is usually away from home for four days at a stretch. I pulled the 1.8 out of her car this past weekend when she was gone. You should have seen the look on her face last night when she saw it sitting on the garage floor. I told her thats what happens when she leaves me alone unsupervised.
