Re: '81 KZ 750 LTD (4 cyl) When I hold in the start button more than a second or two, there's a rattling noise and the bike won't turn over I replaced springs, spring caps and rollers in the starter clutch and it's better but not 100% Any thoughts?
In NO way are those OEM Honda mufflers. There is nothing OEM about them. The "K" model Honda CB750 four of that time had four into four pipes and mufflers, with balance tubes btween the headers under the oil pan. The "F" model, Super Sport, had a four into two into one muffler system. As did the the CB750 Handamatic. These look much like the basic, inexpensive, slip-on style mufflers outfits ...
Thanks Andy. The going rate on fleabay for a set of these in decent shape seems to be about $150, maybe less. A used Kerker 4 into 1 in good shape seems to go for about $250 or so. I'd rather have the Kerker, but I need to go the cheap route this time. nb
i ran it at idle today for an hour in the garage and its still smoking alot and but not from any where in particular that i can see. there is oil dripping onto the common collector but as far as i know it has always done that. im more concerned with this smoke around the engine. I don't understand what i have done wrong.
Any residual oil should have burnt away after an hour. You seem to have an oil leak someplace. Hondas don't normally leak much oil and if it worse now than when you stripped it you need to look again at what you have done. Did you use fresh gaskets?
Yes i bought a brand new set off off dennis kirk. I did not use any sort of liquid sealer and after cleaning the mounting surfaces they were a bit corroded from age. Could this be it?
Maybe. What I would do is thoroughly clean the motor using a degreaser and get rid of all the oil. Allow to dry and then start the bike. You should be able to see the source of the oil leak and deal with it.
car5car said... Let us say you spend $1000 and get extra 5 h.p. What are you going to do with it? Will it make you happy? How about you sell your bike and buy 1600 cc? How about 2000 cc? Given the situation you outline I wouldn't even raise an eyebrow. But this guy is talking max money. However, I fixed the problem. I took a bike that he also looked at and am going to redo a large ...
CaddmannQ said... Engineers are often slaves to rationalism, and strangers to emotionalism. Irrational people rarely become engineers IMO. And evaluating and justifying emotional decisions can be tough for the highly rational mind. I consider myself one of that type as well. Oh, I can certainly get emotional, but really don't deal well with the experience. I find it embarassing, humbling,...
I wish i were english. im a charter bus driver, here in the us a minimum wage job. Im in law school, here a ticket to a minimum wage job also, lol. Anyway these two things are much better over there. I might not have been accepted as a barrister but i am 27 now and did four years as an undergrad to get to whrere i am there i understand you enter lawschool as...
If there is a short on the bike it will be taking some of the battery charge so there might not be enough to operate the starter. You should examine the ignition switch and check the wires around the headstock. You might consider buying the Haynes manual on motorcycle electrics, there is a section covering fault finding. A lot cheaper than having the bike go up in flames! I'm thinking of getting one myself, there's loads of stuff I...
I was going to ask if the timing was on, because that is the only thing left. Even though the bike has electronic ignition, the pickup sensor is mounted on a plate much like the old points plate, with slotted holes.
A few things to consider regarding gas mileage: 1. You mentioned you only drove 10 miles and the gauge went down. When you first start your car, it takes a fair amount of gas to heat up the engine. If you drive a lot of short trips with time for the engine to cool in between trips, your gas mileage will be less than if you just drove the same distance all at once. 2. You can't compare winter gas mileage with summer gas mileage. When the...
That's kinda what I was thinking. I think the next step I'm going to take is to take it into a mechanic (not the dealer) and have them hood it up to a diagnostic tester to see if it truly is getting bad gas mileage beyond what the weather etc. is doing to it. After I check the Scion specific forums, that is.
Sound like you will have to make use of a Voltage Meter for your fully charged battery, may only be charged a bit, for it sounds like the battery cannot HOLD a full charge. Possibly a new & fresh battery is a must to still be checked by the above Voltage Meter. Voltage Meters are inexpensive to-day like around $30.00 in Canada & everything in Cdn is higher in price then the USA. So if you...
One additional thing. The spark is there. I can see it jump when the wire is held away from the plug terminal. But it only jumps about one half to three eights of an inch and it just doesn't seem like a strong enough spark. If the computer was not being satisfied with the battery voltage it would not fire the plugs as you have said. Sudds
85 Aspencade starter wouldn't turn over even though I was getting twelve volts to it, so I tapped on it and tried again. This time it made a few seconds worth of noise and quit again allowing me to believe the starter motor is bad but the Clymer manual says I have to remove the engine to change the starter. Is this true?
The fender is different, but I think this proves that it can be workable. My fender is rubber or plastic, not chrome. I think the plastic is thicker, just enough, to make trouble. If the chrome fender will fit, I would give it a try.
