My 1999 radio will go into SAFE mode if I disconnect power to the radio. But, if I put the key in the ignition, turn it on, all the other modules in the car power up, the radio recognizes it's in the right car and unlocks itself. No code needed. I have a second radio that does the same thing. The first time I used either of these radios, I had to unlock them with their particular code. Once ...

There are some connectors plugged into the back of the radio itself. You'll need to use radio pulling tools (keys) to get it out of the dash.

I don't know why it didn't work yesterday even after being on the road for 5 or 10 min. I'm puzzled.
