Thread: Radiator swap.

Started 2 months, 2 weeks ago by 89 ranger.
Want to putthe radiator outta a 4.0 explorer. What do I need to take off of the donor car. Do I need the support bracket from the 4.0l? What year is the best year to get the radiator from? If I wanna put an electric fan in how do I wire it up so that it isn't running all the time and only when the temp reaches a certain temp. Any tips hints suggestions on the electric fan?

Yeah I guess I wantto know how to put a 4.0 radiator in or if I should just put a e-fan on the 2.9l. Maybe a 4.0 radiator with e-fan

you just need the radiator. unclamp the hoses, take off the two top bolts, put the new radiator in, bolt it up, and put the hoses back on. done.

What siZe e-fan for the 4.0 radiator. Do they turn on and off by temp or are thy hard wired into a switch. I'd much rather have it on and off by temp

use your stock fan. if you do use an e-fan, it should have a thermostat to turn on/off.

My truck doesn't overheat it normal runs on the "o" in normal but up hill with the a/c on it gets up there. Should I swap radiators or will it help? I like the bigger radiator but are there really any advantages?

You also need the explorer hoses. The bottom connection is angled differently on the explorer.

I'm running a 91 explorer AC Radiator and one thing i didn't grab was the fan scroud for the 4.0 radiator. get one. it makes a difference. i went threw two fan clutches before i realized the 2.9L scroud was too tall and was making the clutch work to h ard and burnt it up.
