Thread: RUF launches latest Porsche

Started 4 months, 3 weeks ago by Autocar
RUF has launched its latest version of the Porsche 997. It’s been five years since the German tuning firm released its last 997 variant and the RUF Rt 12 S is an upgrade of that model. The Rt 12 S is powered by a modified twin-turbocharged 3.6-litre flat six, which produces a mighty 675bhp and 649lb ft of torque. See the RUF Rt 12 S picture gallery Styling changes inclu... RUF are one of the very few tasteful Porsche tuners left. The RT12S is no exception, looking little different externally from a standard car. It gives you the confidence that the money you are paying has gone in to the engine and suspension upgrades rather than a pointless body kit. If only I could scrape together the money....

Why do they call it 997 when it looks like a 911?

Topkat: Why do they call it 997 when it looks like a 911? All 911's have a designation number. The originals were 911's, the first Turbo was a 930, then first "face lift" air cooled was the 964, then the 993. The first water cooled became the 996 and the current car is the 997. 911 is just how they've become popularly know.

Wonderful! Very tastefully done. I might be alone in saying that I do not quite like the body kit, but I trust it's there to fulfill a purpose, so it's not all bad. I'd quite like to have all the mechanically uprated bits in a standard Turbo's clothes, then it'll be perfect.
