Thread: RL Darlton Penny Loafers - How cheap do they get on sale?

Started 2 months, 1 week ago by aikon Member
I've been eyeing the Darlton Penny Loafers for a year or so, and after picking up the Darlton Tassel loafer (for $400!), the Darlton Penny Loafer is next on the list. They are $795 and there is a 25% off discount running right now (code RLCCP), which brings them to $596. Thanks, Trip. Have they broken in nicely for you? My only complaint about the Darlton Tassels (and the Rhett Webbing Loafer) is that they are providing very difficult to break in due to the double sole. They don't always put them on deep discounts. Last year I wanted a pair of shoes from the Purple label collection and they never went on sale. Other years, every shoe was 45% off the original price.

how did you get the tassels for that low a price?

I've seen them on Ebay from one of the bigger and more reputable sellers for very low starting bids, and going for $150 or so--in a range of sizes, but not always the best colors. I picked up a pair of nearly new RLP pennys from the same seller, and agree that they don't have the quickest break in time, but not too bad for a double soled shoe (and for the <$50 I paid).

^^ While I have no experience with the Darlton Penny Loafers, I do have a fair amount of experience with Alden's LHS Penny Loafers. Drawing 'solely' from the available literature, it seems the Barlton features a much heavier (thicker) sole than the LHS's...possibly presenting more of a 'break-in' challenge (as cited in some of the earlier posts to this thread). However, the literature, just ...
