Thread: RF Tether of a Marathon?

Started 1 month, 1 week ago by mommyof3tx
I can't find my D-ring for my marathon so until we got our new Grand Caravan yesterday I wasn't able to tether it RF. We installed it in one of the captains chairs and I got a solid install, like that thing isn't going anywhere, not even a slight movement...even without the tether. But I would like to have it tethered. There is a bar at the bottom...front part of the captains chair but it's ...

No, not like that. You need to go up and over, which won't work in a van, or down and in front. Just order a new d ring from britax. naking Wendy

Ok thanks...I was going to order from them but the shipping is so much so I was hoping to avoid it. If the seat is VERY tight without it are there any real benefits of tethering it as well? Or is it just as safe without it?

It's safe without it, but it's part of what you paid for, and there's been shown to be a benefit with side impact crashes if a seat is tethered. Wendy

Thank you Def not questioning your expertise but do you know why it's not ok? When I tethered it it was already in there so tight it didn't move at all. What difference does it make having it attached to something in front? Isn't it just to help secure it more....which it is doing with how I have it now? Also if I had the d-ring would that bar at the bottom front part of the seat the ...

one handed tyoing here... it's not at all to secure it more. in fact, if you're using the tether to make the installation tighter you have a poor installation. it's to prevent rebound (swedish style) or overrotation (australian style). we generally don't see aussie style here because the seat doesn't have an antirebound foot. so we do swedish. the way you have it now the incorrect...

Ahh ok I see. So just to clarify...there is a bar on the captain's chair the seat doesn't move besides to be removed from the van completely. That bar IS ok even though it's it's the same seat the car seat is installed on? Just want to be sure that you weren't thinking a bar on the seat in front of it...since you said Britax says not on the seat it's installed on. Maybe it would just be ...

Here are some pics...just want to be sure I'm clear enough where the bar is and make sure it's ok Sorry the quality isn't good they were taken with my phone You can see the bar I'm talking about attaching it to when I get the D-ring (these were before I undid what I had done with it going under the seat) So is that bar ok to use? Then I took these showing how much room we had ...

Not ignoring you, just have my hands full. No to the tether, years for the seats, and I'll be back to fill in more later. Wendy

the tether cant be attached to the same seat as your car seat is installed on... the tether needs to be attached to something in front of it... usually the seat track from the seat in front works... hth!

I'm not certain if you can add the foam under it. I don't really need to know the model, just know that there are some out there that are little more than a cover over plastic, and others that have a plush cover over padding over plastic. I'd give Graco a call and see if they mind you buying the padding and plush covers for this model (they WILL ask for the model number and date it was made). Maybe you can just buy the padding...
