Thread: R1200S a-arm swap

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by shreddr
I picked up an RT a-arm for a great price (thanks Nail ) and thought I would post the project for others so inclined. I know Captainasty is working on a modification for the stock arm ala Joe the Viking, although a little more sophisticated. He is going to use an insert that will allow different offsets. As for me I will settle for the 10mm the RT a-arm gives for my black rocket. Here ...

Jeff, you just need to go back and add the torque settings and the anthology will be complete. Next, Shreddr goes slipper clutch.

Was it really necessary to remove the headers or were you doing other things as well?

cageyar replied 1 month, 2 weeks ago
He sold his header and is waiting for the Ilmberger HPE header and CF pan to arrive.

I don't even want to know anymore how much you spend on farkles. I thought I was bad, but I'm just an amateur compared to you.

i am trying the create the perfect R12S! perfect for me that is! I actually sold off the other header and pan and covered a good part of the new purchase, I am still around $21K total in the bike.

Shreddr, now you need to go ride a RT without the bags and then ride your S to compare the turn-in rate. I'm not sure if the RT A-arm totally duplicates the specs on the RT. You can do the test if you come down for the ECDR Spring Thaw.

The wheelbase of the R12R is advertised as 1495mm, which translates to 58.86" so it appears that the wheelbase is the same as the R12S. Comparing A-arms on the bikes (just did), the placement of the front attachment also appears to be the same. So even though the R feels like it has sharper turn-in, it's not because of wheelbase. Too bad, as the R has a steering damper so you wouldn't have to drill and tap a new hole.

I think he offered it on the trix site for 850 pounds for the set, but of course I have no idea what Ron paid for it.

Mine's on the way. Couldn't get them to throw in shipping on a $500 part. Thanks for the heads up. Now I'm going to have to get the Steve Carlton treatment done to my shocks as long as I'm in there. Won't be till after Thanksgiving though. I've got a track day at Willow coming up that weekend.
