Thread: Question for actual Reviewers/Critics on site

Started 2 months, 1 week ago by Jeff R.
Do you think it's legit to give a movie a 0 out of whatever rating? Does a movie deserve a point for simply existing? Genuine question after noting one of our major critics scored a horror movie 0/5

Thinking about it there's a whole bunch of movies scoring perfect 10/10, 5/5, A+. or whatever, so yeah a zero score would make sense and bring the universe back into balance.

It's fine actually. There are films out there that deserve that distinction either for ineptitude or for complete lack of execution. If we eliminate the truly bad review, then unsuspecting people could rent a terrible film and not have any warning to avoid it like the plague.

Sometimes you see films that are actively painful to watch, or have no redeeming features whatsoever. I don't think films should be given a free point just for existing because I can think of many, many films that simply should not exist.

Agreed. A zero score would show what an absolute waste of my time watching the movie was. If there really are no redeeming features at all, then it's all it deserves, and a point for existing would degrade anything that scored higher - in essence a film that scored nine should then be bumped up to ten for merely being.

Genuine question after noting one of our major critics scored a horror movie 0/5 In my four years of reviewing movies I have only given one film 0 stars and that was Disaster Movie. Generally I wouldn't give a film zero stars but that movie was just beyond bad. And I'm sure I...
