I am going to be co-teaching a yearbook class and I was wondering if you could tell me some of the differences between Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. I've only used Photoshop, so I am not familiar with the capabilities of PSE. I was thinking of either using PSE or a free software, the GIMP, to teach them photo editing, but if we used the GIMP, I didn't know how well that would prepare ...

I'm not in this industry, but as far as Adobe products go, it sounds like you need to be using InDesign. It's the Adobe "big boy" version of MS Publisher, but not a photo editing program. If you're teaching layout for a yearbook, I would go with that or a simplified version of it from some other company. However, InDesign would definitely be more preparatory for the real world. to add to this ..... I think in the USA you can get an educational price for all software which is WAY WAY cheaper than purchasing it. ( we dont get it here in SA )

I started a reply yesterday, but ran out of time. THANK you for your replies! I would LOVE to buy Adobe's InDesign for the yearbook classes, but even at academicsuperstore.com it's $198, and homeschoolers don't have a lot of money, especially for electives (unless Adobe donates some free copies). We already have copies of Publisher and that worked fine, but I was wondering if I should use ...

I think teenage kids can handle anything, and if the price is right, I'd go with the full version of photoshop. If you're designing a layout that needs precision, the option to set your gridlines and use guides is worth it.
