Thread: Question - Winter Running Shoes

I've been a fair-weather runner, but have stuck to my treadmill once the snow flies. I'd like to start running outside during the winter months too, but I'm concerned about slipping on ice. What do you recommend for winter running shoes? I was thinking perhaps trail running shoes may be a good idea since they have a more aggressive tread...

I just moved to Seattle from the central Rockies and I used to run year-round outside. 8-10 months of icy road is hard to run on. I bought trail-running shoes, but to prevent serious slipping, I had to stud them. There are lots of articles out there on shoe studding, mainly with tiny screws. I used to use those yaktrax, but they didn't work as well for me for running- they'd pop off or break, it was hard to put any real miles on them. I used them for walking around town a lot though.

I used to use those yaktrax, but they didn't work as well for me for running- they'd pop off or break, it was hard to put any real miles on them. I used them for walking around town a lot though.
