Thread: Q&A With Former Powerlifter & Current NFL Strength Coach - Joe Carini
Started 3 months, 3 weeks ago by vicjg
Joe Carini has offered to answer some powerlifting / sports training questions in this forum. Joe was the first man in NJ powerlifting history to total over 2100 and the first to squat 800lbs. Joe is currently a strength trainer to many NFL players, and is responsible for the Pro Bowl seasons of Tiki Barber, Shawn O' Hara & Chris Snee.
Joe will be around to answer any training ...
This is awesome. I have a few questions off the top of my head:
1. Do you have your athletes do deadlifts at any time period of the year? I've always had the impression that they have very little athletic carry over.
2. How much of an emphasis do you place on technique work when it comes to the various powerlifting or weightlifting exercises you have your players do? Obviously they aren't ...
Well i think the obvious questions are:
1. What are some average s/b/d (or power cleans in place of deads) for different positions?
2. What are the most impressive feats of strength you have seen in players that hire you?
BTW, i saw a video of you training Tiki years back and i never knew how solid he was. Thanks in advance joe, when you make an account i will rep you. And reps to...

Heard about Stone, he was a beast.
BTW, good to see you here.

He felt that the SSB was a lot safer and the benefits of doing them were greater. His...

Joe, can you send me one of your programs that would lead to developement in muscle size and strength in equal or near equal magnitudes? I am very curiouse to see how a seasoned strength coach such as you structures a plan vs myself. I also want to see how accurate I am at making my own plans by comparison. Thanks much!
Again, thanks for your time. A few more questions: 1. Are there any general differences of the training philosophies between football players in college and the NFL? 2. Are there any typical strength milestones you want your players to achieve (i.e. run a mile in x amount of time, do x amount of pullups, squat x amount of pounds or x times bodyweight)? 3. Do you have your players follow strict nutritional regimens and if so are there any basic...
