Thread: Puzzled over knock sensor?

Started 1 month, 1 week ago by nordic97mist
Well yesterday i got a knock sensor from o'rileys auto parts. They are great the ppl there. Discount me some money if im broke and shy a couple bucks, if i forget my receipt they print me out a new one and give refunds, pretty sweet. Anyhoo back to tech stuff. I couldn't get the knock sensor from below the car so i had to go from the top. Removed the IM and all that good stuff. The one from ...

How much did you pay for the new knock sensor? I can't believe I broke mine today and I was just simply taking my motor harness off. I think I could probably JB weld it back into place, but don't know if that would even work. I'm not sure how it comes out, cause it's dark outside, and I didn't have a chance to look at it to see how it comes out. Sorry, no help from me, just had to vent a ...

Well they hooked me up for 117$ instead of 139$ lol. But the plug in or w/e was different so it was no good. I hate knock sensors. Idk if jb weld would be good for one. I hear they are a really sensitive part

I was seeing them selling on ebay for around $70+, so I figured it might be cheaper just to get it at O riley's, but I guess not. I may try the JB weld fix and see what happens

nordic97mist replied 1 month, 1 week ago
Yeah im just confused as the why the way they plug in is different. I dont understand that at all. Im an idiot

prelude1897 replied 1 month, 1 week ago
The plug that's on the sensor? I believe it's more of a square plug and a circular plug. Maybe they gave you the wrong knock sensor. Sometimes O Riley's parts are weird. I bought a thermostat from them, and it wouldn't fit my car. Ask them if they have one for an Accord or Odessy

Ok. stopped being lazy. this is how mine looks. in the link in the first post you can see they arent the same

prelude1897 replied 1 month, 1 week ago
that's how mine looks....I was just also thinking, maybe they gave you a sensor for an older Prelude or one for an H23 instead of a H22

nordic97mist replied 1 month, 1 week ago
maybe so. i told them a 1997. the ones from autozone look the same to like the one from o'rielys. i dont get that. after slicing my arm up, getting coolant in my mouth and oil in my eye and gas in my cuts, knock sensor didnt work! FAILL

LOL...I was just looking at this one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA...Q5fAccessor ies and it looks like yours, but they have it listed fitting the h23a motor this one looks like it's the one off our car http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda...Q5fAccessor ies I'd go back and ask for a 98+ sensor and see if it's different

nordic97mist replied 1 month, 1 week ago
yeah. the link i posted in the first post isn't really the one i bought, but its the same plug in method. i just didnt want to go to honda. they are assholes at my location.

yeah doesn't it recycle the exhaust gases back into the intake manifold? i dont really know to much on it but isn't it to reduce NOx or something like that back into the envrioment? edit: i think it also does something with vaccum pressure on the pistons or something. i read on it a while ago so i sorta know kindaish

check engine light on? Did you do an LED conversion to the gauge cluster? When I did one, I forgot to put one of the metal covers on the back side when I screwed it down, and the tach would jump every once and awhile. Where did you get that Domo doll in your back window?

And just for the record beside the fact that its clearly broken in half, it will never look the same as an oem part because it has to be different due to patent laws. good luck

I just looked in my helms, and it shows a picture of the Oreilly sensor. So yours looks broke. I'd take a double look at your harness and make sure on the plug connector. The connector should slide completely over the blue plastic part of the sensor you got pictured.
