I used to have this problem:
sky+ box goes pop & switches off

Recording failed
Today (2-3 weeks since we got the replacement box) I was watching something live and recording it at the same time. I pressed rewind and it ...

Who's to say it was new?, it could have been a refurb.
I think you have no option but to phone them again, complain politely and ask for a ...
This is unbelievable. The box was frozen and I left it in that state. I called up and they told me to turn it off from the mains and turn it on again. I knew that this was what needed to be done and kept asking for an engineer. Once it started up, it actually froze again straight away, so it had to be powered off and on from the mains a second time. After this it was working, and the person on ...
It just messed up again. It popped, turned off and then reset, like the previous box used to do. I'm going to call again. Also what's up with Sky changing all of their phone numbers to premium rate numbers (0844)? Are there any free phone numbers?
Well, don't worry as you are not alone.
I have had 3 boxes this year (all amstrad) and last one was replaced last week.
Like yourself, the screen would go black (maybe a bit of green or red line noise on screen) and then turn off and also reboot.
been ok for a week and this morning was on channel 998 which indicates box rebooting.
it seems as if maybe what happened to your box happened ...

Sky's 08442 numbers are free to call for Sky Talk customers. They are charged at local rate (not premium rate, don't know where you got that from) to ...

Maybe they did - but they are local rate numbers, and free if you are with Sky Talk. BT don't like Sky - maybe that's why they lied to you?

But how could the BT person have known it was about Sky? And wouldn't they want to say that it's cheaper so that their customers don't switch...

They will eventually send an Installer (not an Engineer) who will swap your Digibox for another so-called "refurbished" one, losing all your recordings. Really, the only way to get what you want is ...

Really, the only way to get what you want is to write a letter, state specifically what you want them to do, and send it by Recorded Delivery. This may seem a long-winded way to get what you want but it will be a lot cheaper and will...

Replacement boxes come with a three month warranty. (So get the exchange just before your 1 yr warranty expires)
Whatever "warranty" they offer is IN ADDITION to that given by your statutory rights. Consumer equipment should last for "a reasonable" amount of time (unspecified but certainly more than a year unless you abuse it by locking it in a confined space).

The last time a spent ages going through a technical fault diagnoses process my call cost £7.23 and the box was faulty. I complained and received a credit for the call cost on my Sky account. I then discovered the above free phone number. AVI
