Hi, Okay first post so please be gentle ..... I'm trying to install CentOS v5.3 onto a VIA C7 fanless PC (details here http://www.lex.com.tw/product/LG8322.htm ). Without teaching people to suck eggs, the C7 is basically a low power x86 clone. I've run both Windows XP and Debian on this box in the past without issue. I'm now trying to install CentOS on this box and don't get very far with ...

Gerald, As per my post, I've already tried v4.8 and get the same results as v5.4. Regards JB

You need the special i386 version of the DVD, and you need to follow the instructions at planet.CentOS.

I'm unaware of any "special" i386 DVD releases, and the only reference I can find to Via installation on Planet CentOS is from Arrafab's Blog which seems rather different from this problem. Am I missing something?

Using the anaconda installer, the recommended memory for centos 5.3 i386 installation (see the centos product page ) is 512M for GUI and 128M for CLI. How much memory is available on your system after subtracting off the memory used to support the video? After installation, it will run GUI with less than 512M. So if short on memory, you can install via CLI and then run GUI. Beyond that, I ...

JB, I have an ECS V21G motherboard with Via C7 1.5GHz CPU, CN700 Northbridge, VT8237R+ Southbridge, with 2GB of RAM installed (my motherboard has two DIMM slots with 2x1GB DDR2-533 installed), and have no problems installing CentOS 5.3 i386 from DVD. Might also check for BIOS updates.

You need the special i386 version of the DVD, and you need to follow the instructions at planet.CentOS.
