What do you think would be the short and long term ramifications for CT with P&W closing the Cheshire Overhaul and Repair facility? I think the ripple effect will be enormous in central CT at least. The union will have no say in this as well; I hope those guys are polishing up their skills...
P&W might be as large of an employer than say GM when they left Flint in 1986, but I agree the impact in the following years would be huge - especially in East Hartford since it's one of that town's larger employers, and many people who work there also live there. I really hope something can be arranged to keep them put so the jobs stay intact. At present time, though, that doesn't seem likely....

Sorry, I meant to say earlier P&W isn't as large as GM. I still think the impact will be severe if they leave. A friend of mine from college has been working there for years, no doubt he would be impacted by this, if he hasn't already.
I've noticed in the news that the workforce has taken to sign holding and picketing in masses to "save" their jobs. It will do no good, however. The company, in my viewpoint, has made up their mind. When the union contract runs out, they will be gone. It's a shame too, I know many of those employed in Cheshire, very skilled and they're pretty scared.
