Thread: Power window problem

ive searched and havnt found the solution yet. both power windows on my 98 tacoma sr5 stoped working. the automatic doors locks still work on both switches. however the windows dont work on either side. i have replaced the fuse and checked the relay which appeared to be snug and in good shape. i figured since the locks worked and both windows didnt it was the drivers side master switch...

Get a meter and with the ignition on, check the voltage on the light green/red wire and the blue/red wire at the relay, with the relay in. You should have ~12v on both of them... if the light green one has nothing, there's a problem upstream, probably the POWER fuse. i did check the window lock button with both switches so im confident thats not it. ill go out and tinker with the wiring in a bit, thanks for the info on which wires to check.

was able to get a voltmeter on this thing this morning, i have power to lt green/red wire around 11.8 volts. the blue/red wire is dead with the meter reading 0.01 volts. co according to the above post its probably eithe rthe relay of the relay ground. i attemped to follow the white.black wire to see where its connected to complete the ground but had trouble following it...any idea where its ...

Just test the continuity between the ground wire at the relay plug, and a good ground. I usually just clip my black lead in that little clip that holds the kick panel in when I'm working in that area. I dunno if a parts store would carry that relay or not, IIRC it's a 4-pin mini relay, right? I don't have that part of the factory wiring in my truck, so I'm not 100% sure. If it's the same style...

what cracks me up about that relay recepical is that it is hot, LOL What a stupid thing to do, IMO....open slot with a hot 12v...sigh... ...and fused? where? why? LOL

Fixed. switched out the relay and it worked like a charm. thanks for all the info guys.

Fixed. switched out the relay and it worked like a charm. thanks for all the info guys.
