Is the power steering return hose just plain old rubber hose?

No! It's a high pressure hydraulic hose. You can have them made or buy them at any place that makes hydraulic hoses. Look in the yellow pages. They make a lot of hoses for heavy equiment and can make just about any type of hose with fittings that you need.

What is the other hose with the hose clamps? Doh, I thought it was the return line.

cableguy0 replied 4 weeks, 1 day ago
the return is not hydraulic line. its just transmission line. go buy 3 feet of 3/8's transmission hose and you will be fine. the return line is the one with the clamps

That's what I thought. Will rubber fuel line work?

cableguy0 replied 4 weeks, 1 day ago
no. it needs to be transmission line. the fuel hose will fall apart in tranny fluid. same with tranny hose will fall apart with fuel. they are different kinds of rubber

Gotcha, thanks.

Brian burp on that post. I dp know a guy who used a fuel line and it worked fine. But for how long? I don't know.

Actually there is power steering hose you can buy by the foot that is made specifically to replace the return line. It's not really that expensive especially with the small length that is required. Seemed to be a bit thicker than transmission line if I remember right.

I just found out there is a difference! You can get power steering return hose and transmission cooler hose in bulk at your local parts house. Both are different from fuel line hose. I Learned something new lately

I was able to get a 3' section of power steering return hose for about $16 at Kragen. Also got a new filter as well.
