Spurred on by this article on the Beeb, I got to wondering why people have plastic surgery in the first place? I can understand those that do ti for medical reasons, re-constructive surgery & the like, but I can't for the life of me understand why people have it purely for personal aesthetics? I'm one ugly fella, but I wouldn't want to change the way I look.
so
Plastic Surgery ... ...
For medical and reconstructive reasons I can see a point.
OTH,I do not care much for vain people. Either you are beautiful or not depending on what you have been given genetically at birth.
It's the social aspect of life these days.
If you want to 'fit in' with the 'cool' crowd, you've got to look the part.
For the most part though, it's more the better off folk that like to do it, because they can.
Young 'potential' models like to do it too, which is ****, but it's just life. You'd prefer a women if she had better breasts and a better face after surgery I am sure of it, ...

Girls with smooth legs and blokes with roman chins are simply societal expectations.. and that's all that's happening here as well. The difference is you have to go see someone to do it for you.
I don't like that people feel pressured into doing this.. ...
Also kalniel you seemed to be confused about the people who are comfortable about their bodies and those who are not!!
Some people are scared to even go outside without any makeup since they consider themselves "ugly" even though they aren't.
It verges on some sort of disorder TBH and the media makes things worse.
My ex-wife had cosmetic surgery, she had an apronectomy to remove a large portion of hanging saggy flesh that made her feel really bad about herself. I disagree that she's a "saddo" or "obsessed with her body image" but it was seriously affecting the quality of her life and after being corrected did help her a lot (though left a nasty scar due to post op complications as she kept lifting the ...
[QUOTE=TooNice;1814617]Do you expect guys to shave their armpits? If not, do you find a girl with hairy armpits attractive? I do not believe that the hygiene factor is different for guys and gals in this instance (unless you tell me that girls sweat significantly more), yet I know that all things being equal, I'd prefer a girl who shave herself to one that does not. Even though strictly speaking, the hair is probably there for a reason....

Sure - I'd happily cut my fat face off. Even at my skinniest my round face and chins were a major feature that haven't done anything for my mental well being.
I'd have the fat on my gut and thigh's sucked out but thats about it, partly because I'm loosing it slowly and partly because its killing the circulation in my left hip which after a while sat down leaves me with a wonky painful walk.
To take the topic on the slightly different tangent from the opening question, pretty sure I read somewhere that something like 48% of South Koreans have plastic surgery (of course stats can and do generally lie) but the idols and pop stars I've taken an interest in have seemed to have had plastic surgery. Would I personally have plasic surgery? Even with all the money in the world, I wouldn't even think about it. Just doesn't...
