Thread: Planning trip to Iceland this March Long sorry!

Hoo boy do we need guidance! We will be arriving early am. on March 2. We plan a self drive tour. Our interests are birds, photography, scenery, easy caves,northern lights of course. Not into hiking too much, but would love a Seatour like boat trip if it were available. We want to stay the last 4 or 5 days in Reyk. to do day excursions (volcano tour, golden circle etc.), see the city, ...

Take a couple of days off the city part of your trip, and add them to the driving, and you should be able to see both Snaefelsness and South Coast easily. 4x4 not essential,but good to have.

For a tour company offering a self drive tour with an airport pick up, suggested itineraries, car rental and accommodations... use Icelandic Farm Holidays. http://www.farmholidays.is/ I can't say enough great things about them and what I liked best was staying in unique guesthouses and doing the farm stays. If I understand you right you're staying for 9 or 10 days in all, the last 4-5 in Reykjavík? In my opinion one can easily visit both areas in 5 whole days (as long as the weather and road conditions are fairly good). You might however consider staying at two different places on the south coast so as to skip the marathon driving you say you want avoid. You seem to have done ...

Thank you so much! Just the focus I was looking for! Yes, we will have 5 days to travel and 4 days (including the last blue lagoon day) in Reyk- we were planning to do the golden circle from Reyk., but we could just as easily do it on the way to the south coast if that is smoother. So Taratara and Cflavoured we would Day 1 - Drive up to Snaefelsness Day...
