Thread: "Pirate Radio"...Is Anyone Planning On Seeing It At Theatres??
Started 1 month ago by MUZIK4THAPEOPLE!!
Since this is a topic that deals with classic rock, the british invasion, and the defiant introduction of American Rock-n-Roll to the U.K. in the 60's despite the BBC's ban on it, I thought this would be a good forum to ask if people know about and/or are planning going to see PIRATE RADIO at the theatres, which comes out this weekend?--From the previews, it looks like it's going to be ...
I never go to the movies anymore but "Pirate Radio" looks great. I've read about this subject in the past but was especially intrigued since i got my copy of the book "Fuzz And Feedback--Classic Guitar Music Of the '60's" 7 or so years ago (a great book ,btw). For the year 1962 ,they have a picture of little ship named Caroline and mention that Radio Caroline was one of the best known ...
@Glen Kepic, Yes, I think the ship you mentioned will be one of the ones covered in the movie. I'm sure this movie probably has a website as well where you can see clips, etc.
I've seen this advertised Muzik, but as Glen Kepic says, I never go to the movies anymore. I will probably rent it when it comes to DVD and buy it if I really like it.
Yes, the soundtrack is good, but that is the only good thing about it. I went thinking I was going to get a history of the struggles of radio airplay in England, and instead I got a romp more in the mould of "Love, actually". Using Phillip Seymour Hoffman was a complete waste of talent for this lightweight story.
Most of you guys were right!---"Pirate Radio", I would rate as "Just Okay"..it has some good moments and yes, the soundtrack is great!!--Except I already have most of those songs in my personal collection. But from the perspective of a person who doesn't own alot of those songs, it's a good soundtrack to buy. Saw it earlier this evening... Meh!!--overall an even C rating.
>>I recall you stating earlier that this film had come and gone in Aus.<< Indeed, in fact it is already available on DVD here as "The boat that rocked", although, from what I've read on this thread, it will be somewhat different in the US, although I don't really see how they would make it anymore about the subject than they have.
Wow Buck, that's terrible. I definitely wont be spending the $15 it costs to see the movie in a theater.. it'll be a NetFlix rental for me some day, though... From what people are saying here, it sounds like the songs are not even the songs played during the actual time period. I guess this movie is only very loosely based on actual events if it includes songs like 'Wont Get Fooled Again' which came from AFTER the actual...

"Love, Actually" is one of my favorite movies, so that's a positive review to me! This movie looks like fun, mindless entertainment - worth a matinee show. Hardly any movie is worth full-admisssion price anymore.
