Thread: Pierced ears???

Started 1 month, 1 week ago by ILuvAva
Ok, so DD does not have her ears pierced.  My mom is always making comments about how DD should have her ears pierced, my sister and I had our ears pierced as babies, blah blah blah. I think she is too little and when she is old enough to ask for it, then we will talk about it.  So I just wanted to get a little perspective.  Am I the minority?  Does your DD have their ears pierced?  If so how ...

I agree that they should be old enough to ask for it.  My SIL don't have her ears pierced and she is so glad her mom didn't do it when she was little.  Plus I had mine done when I was three and I had an allergic reaction to the earrings and from what my mom said it was horrible.  They where good earrings, but I can only have Pure silver or 14C gold or else.   She didn't put any earrings back in ...

I don't have a daughter. But if I did, I would not get her ears pieced until she is odd enough to ask. My XSIL is 10, she isn't allowed to get her's done until she is 13.

If I had a girl only if she wants it done and asks for it. For some reason when I see LOs with their ears pierced all I think is ouch baby. But I do remember vividly a friend in jr high who wanted her ears pierced so bad but her mom wouldn't let her so she tried to do it her self with a knitting needle and passed out on the bathroom floor from the blood... that was crazy! Needless to say her mom...

I won't get me DD done, only becuase I have such horrible reactions to earrings. I could care less about it really. But when we were in Costa Rica, DD was 7 months and the family we were staying with thought it was crazy that DD didn't have them. Costa Ricans get their's at 10 DAYS! OMG!

I don't have a daughter but I do not agree with it. I think they should be old enough to ask for it. If I have a daughter I will not get her ears pierced unless she ask and is old enough to care for them!

We got DD's done after her 2 month shots. (the earliest you're supposed to) I LOVE them, sounds crazy, but she loves my earrings and when i show her hers in a mirror her face lights up and she signs "pretty." I had to wake her up for them to do it, and i kid you not, not even 30 seconds later she was back asleep. No infections or anything. We've changed them once because MIL spoiled her with ...

I got them done at three months. I pondered it for a long time because I was scared of the risk of infection. My mother was SO against it too...so I had to work up the courage to do it (I know, I'm not a little girl anymore, but still want moms approval for some reason). My mom made me wait until I was 12 and I wanted earrings for so long. I hated it.  So, I guess I did the opposite because ...

You're not in the minority.  We haven't gotten her ears pierced yet, either.  The reason, however, is that DH and I are at odds with this particular topic and until we're on one accord, we simply won't do it.  His reasoning is very simple:  he doesn't want to put her through pain.  You see, he's a SAHD and goes with us to the ped for her checkups.  He equates getting her shots with getting her ...

I completely agree with OP.  I keep telling people it will be a great birthday present when she decides to ask for them herself.

the tradition in my family (and very common in our community) is to get them done for their first communion (if they want of course!) thats usually at 8 yo. my mom said i never mentioned it then so she waited until i did and i got them done a year later for my 9th bday. so dd will be at least 8 when she gets them done. personally i dont even like the way it looks on little babies. im not a prude...
