The first meeting of the Philadelphia area chapter is tentatively scheduled to be held at the University of Pennsylvania at 10:00 AM. We expect the meeting to last about 2 hours. Details to follow.
First on the agenda is to decide what we want this chapter to be about, and how much we get out of it.
We will follow the basic investment philosophy of the Bogleheads website as well ...

We now have 20 members in our group, with at least 12 or 13 showing an interest in attending our first scheduled meeting on January 23rd at 10:00 am. For our first meeting, we'd like to:
* Review basic investing principals consistent with Bogle's philosophy
* Show parts of the Bogleheads 8 DVD
* Gather feedback on what everyone's interests are and what you would like the chapter to ...

Hi Lady Geek and Philly Bogleheads:
Good luck in your first meeting. FYI, we're planning to hold our annual national get-together with Jack Bogle (Bogleheads 9) in Philadelphia in 2010. We may be asking for some Philadelphia Bogleheads to volunteer to help with some of the preparations and event chores.
Hopefully, at some point in time, I may be able to attend one of your Chapter ...

I should be able to arrange future meetings at Penn as well if people liked the location. I might even be able to make the next meeting! If anyone knows of any Penn profs that would make good speakers, let me know and I'll work on it. Some will doubtless be harder to pin down than others....
I want to thank DT for resurrecting the Philadelphia Bogleheads and linuxizer for getting us the room. I enjoyed meeting everyone and it's nice to put some faces to the names I see on the forum. I thought the first meeting went very well, DT did a great job of getting everyone talking and reviewing the Boglehead philosophy. A few questions and discussions kept things interesting and Lady Geek encouraged me to visit the wiki more often,...
Hi all, I am new to BH and looks like I just missed the first Philly chapter meeting! Timing is everything (except when it comes to Dollar Cost Averaging I suppose). Anyway I am in the Lansdale area and definitely interested in attending the next meeting. Additionally I am planning to retire this fall so should be have time available to help out with stuff.
Philadelphia area Bogleheads may be interested a talk by Michael Lewis, one of my favorite authors, at the Free Library on April 8 to discuss his new book The Big Short . $14 in auditorium or $6 by simulcast when the main auditorium sells out. http://libwww.freelibrary.org/....amp;type=2
