Thread: Parenting Style?

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by Caity's Momma
With all of these new fangled terms flying around, like crunchy, silky, and mainstream... how would you term your parenting style?   As my signature says, I'm pretty silky/mainstream. I do have some "crunchy" principles about me, but not many. I mainly take things 1 day at a time.

Somewhere in the middle. This is c&p from an old AP thread, but most of this applies more here than it did there. We co-sleep. We selectively vax on a delayed schedule. We don't do CIO. We bathe together. I used a sling for a short period of time, then I frequently used the baby bjorn carrier. We don't spank. We're currently considering homeschooling. We do not eat organic, ...

Uhmmmm...I consider myself a normal, common sense using Mom who was raised in the 70's so I've got my quirks. ;-P

I think I am right in the middle--I breastfed for 16 months. I did co-sleep, but was against it before baby came along. It was just easier for us. I am delaying a few vaccines. I love my baby sling (hotslings.com), but don't mind using the stroller when it's just easier. I would never do CIO, but I understand why some parents do it. To get my toddler to sleep in her own bed I had to do the pick ...

I call myself instinctual, although I've read most of the popular books and have selectively applied good ideas. I just do what feels right for our family. We use disposable diapers, we BF (exclusively and extended), we make our own baby food, eat organic some of the time, co-sleep, baby wear, bathe together, I stay home, and we vaccinate.

Oh, I see now!  I totally knew what crunchy was, but I never really thought of silky as being the opposite.  Too funny!  I think I probably fall somewhere in between as well.  Definitely more crunchy on some things but a little "silky" on others.

Well I guess I'm in between crunchy and silky then :-) I FF, use disposable diapers, gives vaccines on schedule and then on the other hand I baby wear, use organic food for DD and we used to co-sleep

DaikiniMomma - Me neither!  I often see terms like that on people's signatures and wonder what they mean.  Anyone willing to give some insight?

Caity's Momma replied 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I forgot about co-sleeping, Andrea... I guess I fall usually in between as well. I also co slept for a little bit and still do sometimes. I just do whatever seems right. :D

Crunchy moms are generally those who BF and sometimes EBF, cloth diaper, baby wear, sometimes non vaxxing, usually goes with natural organic foods, products, that kind of thing. Silky moms usually FF, use disposable diapers, vaxx... There's a lot more that goes into those, but I can't really think of them off the top of my head. To be honest, I had never heard of these terms until a few ...
