Acrobat - Preferences - Units and Guides (right at the bottom of the list) set it to millimetres. I've never used the other setting you describe so I can't say whether it works or not.

Hi guys.....
this is driving me nuts so hope you can help.
have created an ad in InDesign CS4 which I need to send to a mag as a high-res PDF. have exported it etc and generated the PDF fine - and to cross check my document size - have gone to File > Properties.
frustratingly this is displaying in INCHES not millimetres despite the INDD being set up as millimetres - AND the setting ...
