Thread: PAI-1, MTHFR, & Protein S Deficiency

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by Lauren327
Hi I was so happy to find this group of lovely lovonox ladies.  I have the PAI-1 mutation (the 4G/4G gene mutation), MTHFR and Protein S deficiency.  I have had 3 miscarriages in a row all at about 6 weeks.  After the third I found an RE who did a full work up on me and this is what he found.  I have been on baby aspirin and folic acid preconception and I just started lovonox as I found out I'm...

Congratulations!  Sounds like you are definitely on the right track.  However, I would recommend having your blood sugars checked.  PAI-1 has a high correlation with insulin resistance which has also been linked to miscarriages.  If you do have high sugars it's usually as simple as taking metformin or following the diabetic diet.  I have MTHFR with high homocysteine, PAI-1 with insulin ...

I'm so sorry for your losses but happy you now have your miracle sons!  Thanks for the tip about insulin resistance being linked to PAI-1 as I had no idea.  I'll ask my RE about this and see if he has tested me for this already.  If you don't mind me asking, was your pregnancy with your 7 month old the first with Lovenox?

I had two miscarriages, blighted ovums, before they found PAI-1 and homozygous MTHFR. My third pregnancy I started the lovenox which I really think was beneficial as we carried to 7 weeks and even saw a heartbeat, which was further then we had ever gotten. I did end up having a miscarriage, but it was chromosonal and the lovenox wouldn't have been able to stop that. I truly believe the ...

I am PAI-1 4G/4G as well.  I had 3 miscarriages and then they found this out. I started Lovenox the day after I found out I was pregnant again.  I just delivered her 3 weeks ago and everything went perfect!!!!  I know its scary especially at first.  I owe this little baby to lovenox.  I hope it helps you as much as it did me.  I'm ready for number 2 despite all the shots!  You get used to them.

I agree, you do get used to them. The first time I used them, my MFM/OB suggested doing them in my thighs. I cried every day and would get these huge 4 inch round bruises. Well this go around my hematologist said I could do them in my stomach, and let me tell you the vast difference. I don't mind them anymore and I rarely get bruises. If I do, its a tiny pinhole bruise you can barely see. The ...

Congratulations on your bundle of joy!!  It makes me feel so much better when I hear stories like yours Lisa.  I can't help but feel that I'm going to have another miscarriage but I pray to God everyday the Lovenox will do the trick and it makes me feel so hopeful when I know it's worked for others.  My RE and regular OBGYN havn't mentioned anything about seeing a hematologist.  Should I be ...
