Thread: P5K Premuim and C2Q Q6700

Started 2 months, 2 weeks ago by suckerface
So, here's the deal: I'm trying to get my Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 OC'd to above 3.5/3.6 GHz. I can manage to hit 3.5 without TOO much trouble, but as soon as I hit a 360 MHz FSB with a 10x multi, it blue screens within a few minutes under Prime95. Based on all the research I've done, I'm not sure why I can't get it any higher. Interrupt for specs: Asus P5K Premium WiFi-AP ...

I would 1st drop your RAM freq down to the lowest strap maybe 333/667 for now - this is only until you reach your maximum stable CPU clock, you can increase it again later. Since you are using 8GB i would also see if more NBv would help, it is prolly under a lot of strain and will most likely need a boost. Finally i would take the CPU off AUTO vcore and start looking at 1.35-1.4v for 3.6-3....

CPU-Z reports it (on auto) at 1.36v. I've tried bumping it up as far as 1.4v, but still the same results. Should I try even higher? I'll tweak the strap settings sometime tonight/tomorrow and report back the results. And as far as NBv, what would you suggest? Also, if it helps, when I run Prime95, the tests on two of the cores stops pretty quick, but two continue to run just fine...

You should not need more than 1.4v unless its a real pig of a chip. As for NBv i would keep an eye on the temps and its hard to know not having used that board but i would just keep upping it till you get stable, if i were to guess i would aim for 1.45v but that might more than enough. I would do the straps 1st, RAM is often the cause of this kind of thing. Edit: the cores stop? sry ...

Try 450x8 with 1.38-1.42v Vcore and 1.3v for the NB .

Sweet guys, thanks for the advice. I'll try this out as soon as I can and post my results ASAP. The gf just had a photo client today, so she'll be using the PC to do a bunch of edits until further notice :0p

@Sucker Your board same with mine...And easily put Q6600 G0 @3.6 GHz 1.4625v ( BIOS )... CPU -Z shown 1.440v (when load with LoadLine Calibration/Voltage Dampering ON)...vMCH/northbridge = 1.4v, vPLL = 1.7v, charge overvoltage = 1v... There's rather high jump on vcore between 3.6 Ghz and 3.5 Ghz in my case...I just need 1.35v ( CPU -Z) to pass prime @3.5 Ghz...But @3.6 Ghz 1.4v ( CPU -Z) ...

Honestly I wouldn't run a PLL of 1.7 volts on a daily basis.

Well....I dropped the vPLL from 1.7v to 1.6v and i got OCCT test failed after ~2 minutes...All setting still the same, vcore , vnb , vfsb, vdimm , charge overvoltage etc...
