Thread: Oxidized Headlights

Started 1 month ago by Rivermonkey17
I have a 98 sierra and my headlights are really oxidized. It really cuts down on performance and I can hardly see when I drive at night. The mechanic told me I need to replace them, but before I fork out the money I was wondering if anyone knew any tricks to restore and polish them? Thanks for any help!

Theres a sticky for it somewhere on here. Search the forums, you should be able to find alot of info on yellowed or oxidized lights.

I know there's an easy DIY way but automotive stores along with Wal-Mart sell products for clearing up oxidized headlights. My mom used one of them for doing her headlights and it worked great.

Yeah walmart sells on for like 20 bucks and it comes in a chrome bag that works pretty well. Also wetsanding and buffin them out with compound has worked well for me too

I just tried The CCP 5 minute headlamp restorer without any results. When you wetsand them what grit do you use... in guessing 1500-2000 but idk for sure.

I started with 600 then 800 and then alot of work with 1500. Mine were really bad and someone tried to use that instant fix sealer. TAKES FOREVER TO SAND OFF. After I finished sanding just rubbing compound and elbow grease for a shine.

I used the kit on my mom's old ford windstar, it was a night and day difference. they looked brand new.
