On occasion. Next year I am slated for a complete health check-up and I'll also look into that.

I am on a steady diet of steroids, a candidate for spontaneous fractures and my DEXA just barely misses Osteoporosis I have a constant concern about bone health.  I wouldn't call it obsessive but I need to be constantly aware and careful. I take medication for bone health and supplements to balance my lactose intolerance.

I do to a certain point because I have a rare bone disease and I tend to break bones fairly easy, but I don't let it run me nuts.

I am concerned, but not obsessed. I have had problems with the medications and am currently not taking anything, except calcium and vitamin D supplements. So I do try to be mindful of excercise and other things I can do to help.

I use advair diskus(inhaler) & it poses a threat to bones. It sure causes concern.

Yes I do.  I think about them every day.  That is why this board is on my favorite boards list.  : ) The vitamins and nutrients I take for my bones totally affects the whole body in many ways.  I am reading more and more of the beneficial effect vitamin D has on the body's systems, and is a good deterrent to cancers, including breast cancer.  It's all interconnected.  So, what's good for ...

Hi Terri! It is always good to see you here. What vitamins and supplements are you taking currently?

cl-nottoo replied 2 months, 2 weeks ago
It is too bad when medication we must take for one condition puts us at risk for something else. What vitamins and supplements do you take?

Jan, I think with your risk factors you should get a bone density test if you have not already had one. That would let you know where you stand now. You might also ask your doctor to do a vit D level. Most of us do not get enough vit D and it is extremely important in building bone. If it is low, you may not be getting enough in your calcium supplement, although it sounds like you should be getting plenty of calcium. And I really do recommend...

You are right. I should have a bone density test. I am menopausal now. Since I had the WLS, I have many blood tests to check the levels of vitamins & iron. To the best of my knowledge, the calcium was ok. I take iron supplements. In fact, I take A LOT of supplements.LOL Will mention this to my PCP on my next visit. Thx so much! jan

Thanks Becky! It's good to see postings on the board again.? Currently I'm taking vitamin D, cod liver oil capsules and a superfood powder called Boku Superfood.? When the capsules are done, I'm going to just get the oil.? I put it in my fuit smoothies in the morning.? Can't even taste it, but cod liver oil has great healing properties in it and some vitamin D also. I've tried hard to eat more fuits and veggies, and...
