Thread: O-RIng Chain FUBAR?

The problem is that the chain has sat for quite a while (4-6 years) and the O-Rings have degraded. The chain is a little rusty and the O-Rings are cracked in some spots. The chain can probably be revived, but I obviously can't fix O-Rings. I don't plan on running it in the dirt so, should I just revive the chain and let the O-Rings do what they will? I don't really want to buy new f/r ...

I would buck up. When the o-rings start to go the sprockets are going to go quickly. My 2c

i'd be more worried about the chain breaking and taking out a case than the price of new sprockets.

Honestly... Buy a $49.00 "Primary Drive Co." chain from Rocky Mountain and save your bike and maybe yourself. Don't risk it. Taking a leather ride 100' feet down the pavement sux. Especially, when you can prevent it.

a chain that has been sitting for 6 years without proper lubrication which would explain the rust can be considered trash. don't run it that way unless you are prepared to face possible consequences.
