Thread: OT- Question about eyelash vipers

Started 1 month, 4 weeks ago by derek317
I heard that neo eyelash bites are really just like a bug bite. My question is, if that is the case, if you had a neo that you got bit by weekly, as it grows would your tolerance for the venom grow with it? Just curious.

Yup! You can barely feel them and it does nothing.

I kept and bred eyelash palm vipers for about 12 years so I speak from experience. Don't let them tag you ....at any age. If by bug bite you mean stung by a Chinese hornet while simultaneously having your hand slammed in a car door over and over again.......sure give it a try. The thing is a baby eyelash viper is so tiny that they really can't give a "good" bite but as they grow and are at...

Derek, You should ask Jon Healy. he had a buddy who`s finger went nucrotic from a neo bite. all books I`ve read all say they are not to be taken lightly, and a bite could kill a small child. That being said they do have one of the most mild of the viper family.

I don't have any eyelash vipers, and I sure as hell wasn't going to try to get bit by one. I just saw a show about a guy who injected himself with venom to build his tolerance and now when he gets bit he doesn't have to freak out about it, and then I read about an eyelash neo bite not being that terrible. I just didn't know if you put the two together if it would work. For the record, I am not ...

trying to build up tolerance is dangerous, you could become allergic to the venom, achieving the opposite sort of speak

Check out Bill Haust. Not sure of the spelling. I had a buddy who was tagged by one of his E.Vs. Dude had a bad experience at a hospital after a Rattler bite and was more afraid of fasciotomies than snakes. He stayed home and drank a bottle of whiskey. He thought that would protect his kidneys and liver. He had a long painful night but had no lasting symptoms. I was in Costa Rica chasing ...

Wow, Kyle, furry caterpillar? That's a first time for me to hear of a reaction to those, now I must learn more...... do you know what species it was? I've also seen show on Animal Planet I believe and believe it was Bill Haust that they did at least one special on. When you see a pic of him, check out his hands, Bill has survived several venomous bites, but it certainly wasn't without a cost ...

Kathy I took the caterpillar to an entomologist who lives in Costa Rica and she had no idea what species it was . She thought it was South American. Possibly called Golden Hamster or something like that. Apparently there are a few that can be deadly.

Thanks Terry. That's all I was wondering about. I have no desire to ever put venom or have venom injected into my body, but I had heard of that guy and was curious as to your guy's thoughts on it. Freaks me out.

I caught two of those, and they both turned into cocoons. I can´t wait to see what they turn into.

Eyelash viper bite = extreme pain, swelling, necrosis and many lead to amputations and kidney failure. Babies included. The venom of the Eyelash viper is actually quite toxic and is certainly a potentially fatal bite, especially from larger specimens. Though I would not take lightly a babies bite just from a tissue loss and resultant infection standpoint...not to mention the kidney problems. Bill Haast has taken well over 200 venomous snake...
