It looks as if Youtube is going to delete this very, very soon, so watch it while you can.

I dunno about Rabbit's Moon, Anger is very hit or miss with me, some of his work I loathe (Inaguration of the Pleasure Dome), some of it I love (Invocation, Lucifer Rising to a lesser extent).
For My Crushed Right Eye is my favourite of Matsumoto's short films, it's really amazing and imo better and more accomplished than anything Anger ever did in a similar vein. A little blurb I wrote for my...
I'm usually either indifferent towards Anger's movies or I enjoy them to a certain extent; the two movies of his that I've uploaded from his so far x97; Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome and Rabbit's Moon x97; were uploaded on request, and I'm not crazy about them. Scorpio Rising is the only Anger I've seen yet that I consider a real masterpiece, and one of my favorites.

Wow, I mean that Don Hertzfeldt thing is so awesome, thanks for posting. Just beautiful to see pen and ink animation be that good. Never even heard of the guy.

I'm confused. I thought Rabbit's Moon was made in the 1950 (that's what the DVD box and IMDb say, anyway)

It's amazing you know how much the music matters with Rabbit's Moon, I've seen both versions, and I love the second one far more than the one you've posted. If you've not seen it it goes to "It Came in the Night" by A Raincoat, it's pretty damned good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nL4hATHtPTM

Quite the amazing short, isn't it? Not only is the pen & ink animation exquisite, which is rare, but the mere dedication of spending four years to create an animated aesthetic by hand personally is a feat that really increases my appreciation of the work; same goes for animators such Norshteyn, where even if the outcome doesn't wholly impress me the arduous craft certainly does. Hertzfeldt's ...
btw I have the dvd of Susan Pitt's film, and am sad to report that imho Asparagus is a one-off success, brilliant as it is, and one of the greatest experiences I ever had in a cinema.

er I think it is, can't remember the story, but I think it was salvaged and rereleased.

I've seen a few Bill Plympton shorts, and have enjoyed them all even if I don't consider them quite in a league with Hertzfeldt. Hey that's cool, you got to see the first screening of 'Bambi Meets Godzilla.' ;) Well this is the first time hearing about Spike & Mike's, but they've got an interesting website. yeah you have to be careful with Youtube, your stuff is generally pretty nice looking, but it can go badly wrong. Les Jeux des Anges is a bit of a joke on Youtube, nothing like as immensely powerful as it can be. I'll take a look at A propos de nice and report back. Yeah I just took a look, even with the aerial scenes at the start there's meant to be such grandeur, which because of the postage stamp size isn't caputred on...
I'm inclined to agree. Although if I think about it I probably liked 'Everything Will Be OK' even better. He just gets better with every film he makes. That one isn't only hilarious, hilariously cute and clever as always, but also quite profound. The editing also would be fun, I'd think, especially on this one with its lack of a narrative you can just run loose. They ran that Pasolini segment before...
I probably don't have to tell you this, but Bill Plympton should be seen...and loved by you. By the way...I was at the very first Spike and Mike's twisted animation festival screening at the Unicorn theater in La Jolla. Not opening night, but during its first run back in the day. 1970, 71 or so..... I saw Bambi Meets Godzilla for the first time on the big screen!! Fatum ut Subsisto Familaris

Hertzfeldt is great. You should seek out his earlier Rejected, which somehow managed to score an Oscar nomination despite the low-tech stick-figure aesthetic. http://www.bitterfilms.com chew it up and spit it back at the waitress
It was shot in 1950 in Paris, but never completed. Anger re-discovered the footage a decade later and used popular Doo-Wop songs to establish the narrative. A decade after that, in the 1970's, he created a seven minute version of the film as birthday present for the son of Stan Brakhage.
I have mixed feelings about Hertzfeldt. Some of his stuff I like (I really enjoyed the one you just posted), but Rejected is really tedious for me. I suppose I should see the rest of his work, as there isn't a lot of it. --- Last night I played poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.
