If you have a short time frame to retirement (less than 10 yrs) You could begin to move into capital preservation mode by....   1) select a fixed-income fund from your fund choices     (just make sure that the expense ratio is less than the dividends & interest paid)   2) pick a bond fund or two     (personally I prefer Government bonds)   3) reduce your 401K/403B ...

Houston,  I will try this again.. fifth time.. if you need to lower risk rebalance to the 60/40 but do it slowly as bonds are at the peak.. gold makes a good inflation hedge for the 40 percent bonds funds but it too has been on a multi-year bull run!!  Bond funds give up too much of the yield.  have you thought of international stock/growth stock-small caps stock.. also DJUA has been a great. ...
