Thread: Not sure where I went wrong...

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by Esdrr
So I finished all my interviews in Texas before October even began, I have a 3.7 sGPA, 3.7 cGPA, and a balanced 36 MCAT and I felt like I did well at all my interviews, but I only pre-matched at one school, UTMB. I was really hoping for utsw or at least an offer from other schools like a&m or utsa. Should I be worried? Why didn't more schools make me offers? I'm still happy I at least ...

We'd need detailed information about your ECs. Maybe you were lacking in an area a school considered important. Your numbers are so strong, that would be my first suspicion. Were your LORs strong? Did you blow the interviews? Were there any red flags on your transcript, like lots of Ws? Also, it isn't over yet. You may yet hear from your favorite school. And why be "worried"? No matter ...

Well... I know my LORs are very strong, I know that because I was told this at my Columbia interview, and at least two others. Ive got soild research, worked as a pharm tech throughout college, tons of community service, vice president of a club, MCAT teacher, lots of shadowing, no W's on my transcript, etc. Everywhere I interviewed in Texas said my application was very strong. I guess I'm...

You can definitely still receive prematch offers. They don't all go out on the same day, and as people with multiple offers start paring down to only one offer, the schools will probably send out more prematch offers through 12/31. And you still get to create your rank list, so you can put UTH or Southwestern at the top of that without jeopardizing your UTMB offer at all. Plus, Houston at ...

Thanks. I just talked to a friend. He received 0 prematch offers. He then matched at UT Houston, and got accepted into Baylor med. I guess pre-match offers aren't always a strong indicator of a strong candidate?

Hey... same boat here. 4.0 sciences, 3.8 overall, 37p, extensive clinical experience(5000 hrs), volunteer work(including starting a homeless outreach program which has been in existance for 7 years now), leadership. Unsure about my letters, but the profs all really liked me and I tore their classes up. One UTSW interviewer poured me with compliments, the other interview went very well, as have ...

Hey... same boat here. (Edited for anonymity... just deleted some stats similar to the person who started the thread) I interviewed late in the season, starting ****. To be honest, it's nice to see another highly qualified candidate in a similar situation. I may delete this later, but I thought others like this know you're not the only ones.

Hang in there!! Your stats are very solid and it is still pretty early in the cycle....

For now, just take comfort in the fact that you will be in med school this fall. But, I think you will get into your first choice school in the end.

Yeah you never know how these things are going to go. First of all, UTMB is a good school, as are all of the Texas schools; if that's where you wind up, you can still call this cycle a success. I was in your same boat last year; I received two pre-match offers from UTMB and Texas Tech-El Paso, but I was hoping for UTSW, where I'd done two summers of research, San Antonio, or Houston. A week ...

Any application season that sees you receiving an acceptance has not gone wrong. Be happy you've topped more than half the applicants, and enjoy being on the way to doing the career you've chosen.
