Anyways, i am new to welding, but im learning as fast as i can. Thats why im here, i have a few questions.
1.) What size sticks do you ...
I wouldnt go thinner than 1/8 inch welding stick. 6010 is a great rod to learn with, you will have to learn how to controll the puddle rely fast with that rod. Get some leathers, it throws a lot of fire. 7018 is another great rod and is easy to weld flat if thats how you are welding. People control the puddle diferant and no 2 welds look alike.
differant for every machine

No, not at all. The First two numbers are the tensile strength x 1000 lbs per sq in. The third is the position (1 = all positions, 2 = flat). The last number is the type of flux.

20 ga. is do able but you will spend a lot of time playing with it. I have
a mentor that did all his welding with a stick machine did a couple floor
board jobs when he and I were workin together still. One thing to do is get
some scraps of steel to practice with and be aware where you weld there is
always a potetial for fire so keep eye on your work area.
